Miyavi NEOTOKYO15 Concert With Special Guest Daichi Miura Report

Miyavi 15th Anniversary Neo Tokyo 15
June 29th at Studio Coast. Special guests Daichi Miura & KREVA.

This is it. The grand finale. Miyavi has performed 14 shows in the past month and it all culminated in this last concert. Studio Coast in Shin-Kiba was undoubtedly the largest venue in this tour and while the show wasn’t sold out, it certainly felt like it did. The last minute addition of KREVA to the show certainly gave a push for his die-hard fans and they showed up. Props to them for coming to a concert only to hear one song.
There was no lack of Daichi Miura fans either however, the number of Miyavi fans was definitely larger, which makes sense since it’s his concert.

Daichi Miura got on stage and went straight into performing two of his biggest hits: I’m on Fire and Right Now. His voice sounded great, but Miura’s appeal is 40% singing and 60% dancing and the venue was not in his favour. No one could actually see his amazing dance moves as the screen behind him was used very sparingly and the clubhouse setting made is so that only the first rows and the second floor could see him.
Nevertheless, the man gave his all. It was interesting to have Miura as the opening act since his music style could be described as generic dance pop (in the best way possible!) while Miyavi is pure samurai guitar slapping insanity. Having said that, it wasn’t a complete stretch either since Miyavi has worked with pop artists in the past and it worked beautifully.
After a few high intensity dance tracks, Miura decided to try a ballad and started singing Fureau Dakede ~Always with You~ in acapella style. It was very beautiful and his voice carried through the venue smoothly and dramatically. The song then picked up with an R&B beat. The song lost a bit of its charm then, but the fans were enjoying every second regardless. After that pleasant interlude, it was back to dance music and Miura played three more songs, including EXCITE, the theme song for the latest Kamen Rider. He finished his set with (RE)PLAY and then gracefully left the stage.

Miyavi’s set started like the other times, with the “history of Miyavi” montage through the special app. He then came on stage and started rocking out.
There isn’t much more I can say that I haven’t already said in the previous 2 live reports. Especially since the setlist was almost the same (with a few notable exceptions which I WILL talk about). Miyavi gave his all despite being sick and no one could tell he was until he mentioned it.
While last time, STRONG was an encore, this time it was part of the main setlist and that was because KREVA himself came. So when Miyavi invited him to join the stage, the crowd went wild with excitement.
KREVA seemed thrilled to be there and was a delight to watch. He definitely gained some new fans just from that one song alone. When the song ended, KREVA left the stage and Miyavi continued with the rest of the setlist.

The back to back DAY 1 and Horizon is definitely be one of my favourites to take from this tour. So much energy and fire and it’s just magical and electric and dazzling and powerful. Real good stuff.
The encore for this concert was unique. Miyavi came back on stage and performed Live to Die Another Day, this time, the trailer for the tie-in movie played on everyone’s phones right before he started playing. It has become one of my favourite songs of his. Miyavi manages to make his guitar sound like a violin in this song, and it tugs at the heart and makes you want to cry. Absolutely beautiful.

Then, he dedicated What a Wonderful World to everyone in the audience, and that was very sweet. After that, Daichi Miura came on stage, and I thought he would perform What’s My Name - Day 2 Mix- like he did with everyone else on this tour but no. They performed a Daichi Miura song and it was amazing. Miyavi’s guitar adds so much UMPH to every song and takes it up 10 levels. Then, they performed a new song that’s a collaboration!! The song, so aptly titled Dancing With My Fingers is such a groovy song, lots of funky beats. It is so catchy and fun and I can’t wait for it to be officially released. The crowd ate it up and go into it from the very first note. I’ve never seen a performance of a new song get accepted so quickly by a crowd before. It was very special.
Finally, Miyavi called out KREVA and the three of them, after doing a wonderful back and forth of “thank you” that could have lasted for hours really, performed What’s My Name? -Day 2 Mix- and it was amazing. KREVA added his own rap to the song, Miyavi shredded on his guitar and Daichi Miura was giving complete diva flares and it was pure perfection. What a way to end a show. What a way to end a tour!!
It’s been 15 years since Miyavi’s solo debut. He has changed SO much since the beginning and he has lost and gained many fans along the way. Where will he go from here? How will he evolve and change next? I have no idea, but I can’t wait to see.
Happy 15th anniversary Miyavi! Here’s to another 15 and more!
